Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after March of that year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
